How To Play Roulette

Roulette is a simple game to understand once you know the basics and you’ve played it a few times. What we’re going to do is cover how to play roulette, step by step, in both online and real casinos.

We will then get into the more intricate details of the game, including descriptions of the different bets, odds and payouts. We’ve tried to keep this guide as simple as possible with a view to making it easy to understand for new players.

How To Play Roulette Online

online roulette gameSept 1: Finding A Casino – You need to find a casino to actually play your roulette games and you obviously want a fair one that will pay you if you win and give you a fair game along the way. Our page on the best roulette sites can help you out with that.

Step 2: Bonuses – All online casinos offer bonuses to new players and you need to decide whether or not you want one. Our advice would be to avoid bonuses altogether because they come with terms and conditions that require you to wager a set amount of money before you can cash out.

Worse yet, roulette does not count towards the wagering at all, making it impossible to cash out. You can avoid all of this messing around by simply telling the casino you don’t want any bonuses, leaving you free to cash out any money you win. More details about all of this can be found at casino bonus scam.

Step 3: Depositing Money – You will need to deposit money if you’re going to play for real and there are several different methods that you can use to do this including credit/debit card and even PayPal (for UK and most European countries). We have covered this at depositing real money.

Step 4: Choosing Your Game – The are several different roulette games that you can play in online casinos and we have covered them on the variations page. We would recommend playing either French or the European game because they have a 2.7% house advantage whereas the American game has an extra slot which pushes the house edge up to 5.26%.

Step 5: Actually Playing – Once your money is deposited and you’ve chosen your game, it’s time to start playing and it’s a very simple process. You simply place your bets on whichever part of the table you want and then hit the “spin button”.

If you win, your balance will automatically be credited with the correct amount. If you lose, your balance is deducted accordingly. That, in a nutshell, is how you play roulette online. How To Play Roulette In A Real Casino

The first thing you need to do is identify a table with a spare seat (normally 6-8 seats per table) and sit down. Different casinos will have different policies with regards to buying chips but normally you buy your chips directly at the table from the croupier so you will need cash in your hand ready when you sit down.

The reason for buying the chips at the table is because each player has a different colour which makes it easy for the croupier to identify winning players and pay them. For example, Player A could have yellow chips, Player B red, Player C black and so on.

You tend to find that a busy roulette table with multiple players will have chips all over the place. Without the colour coded system, it would become a free for all and unmanageable for the croupier.

Once you have your chips and you have your seat at the table, it’s time to place your bets. You need to wait until the winners have been paid from the previous spin, the croupier will announce “place your bets” and you will have around a minute or so to place your bets.

At most casinos, the croupier will release the ball while you’re still placing your bets and you can continue doing so until “no more bets” is announced. Once this has been announced, it’s time to sit back, keep your hands away from the table and hope that luck is on your side.

You can’t change your mind and take bets off the table once no more bets has been announced and nor can you place any more bets. Failure to follow these two rules could result in you being ejected.

Once the ball has landed, the croupier will mark the winning bets, sweep the losing chips off the table, pay the winners and then the whole cycle starts again. That, in a nutshell, is how you play roulette in a real casino.

Intricacies Of The Game

While the information above covers the basics, there’s more to learn such as the different bets that are available, their odds and their payouts. We could’ve included this information here but we decided to put it on separate pages in order to keep this section as easy to follow as possible.

Wheel and Table – There are three main variations of roulette which are European, American and French. Here, we have detailed descriptions and high quality diagrams of all three.

Roulette Bets – You’ve got the Outside bets that cover a large section of the wheel for a smaller payout such as Red/Black and then there’s the Inside bets that cover less with a higher payout. There’s also the more advanced Call bets such as Voisins Du Zero and Orphelins. All of them have been covered in detail here.

Roulette Odds – Different betting positions have different odds of winning, starting with Red/Black at 48.65%, down to 2.7% for a Straight Up number bet. We’ve covered the odds for each individual bet for both European and American roulette.

Roulette Payouts – Due to different bets covering varying amounts of numbers and having different chances of winning, they have varying payouts too. It starts with a 1:1 payout ratio for Red/Black (bet £1 win £2 back) and goes all the way to a 35:1 payout for a Straight Up number bet (bet £1 win £36 back).
